  18. <p>     Politicians, listen up! If you're worried about getting the
  19. vote out, call Kathie Lee Gifford. The effervescent talk-show
  20. host was so determined to win TV Guide's Most Beautiful Woman
  21. on TV phone-in poll that she pleaded with viewers for five days
  22. to vote for her. It worked. Last week Gifford, 37, crushed
  23. runner-up Jaclyn Smith, 17,796 votes to 3,603. Some opponents
  24. complained, but Gifford stands by her actions. Says she: "I
  25. didn't do anything illegal." Score one for the American way.
